ACIM Annotated HLC の注の注、etc.

Doug Thompson の Annotated HLC の注を読んでいると疑問に感じるところがいくつかあったので問題となる注に注釈を付けてみました。ネイティブでも間違うときは間違うものですね。もちろん私の勘違いと言うこともあるでしょうから検討してみて下さい。ついでにWeb 上の Scholar's Toolbox の Urtext、FIP Text にある誤植等を付記しました。HTML 版のテキストはPDFなどより格段に扱いやすい（ワードにコピーしても崩れが少ない）ので、修正してもらえるとうれしい。

“Bring to light” simply means “reveal.” “Bright to the light” means bring to God ...
Bright は Bring の誤植でしょう。

15 D 11.
The host of God needs not seek to find anything.
host は集合名詞で、複数を表しているので、動詞は need でなければならないというのですが...
“host” はたくさんの人や物をを意味することがあります。その場合お客をもてなす人という意味はないようです。このままにするか、意味的に複数でなければならないなら、hosts ... need にするかの二者択一でしょう。
ちなみに ノートも Urtext も host ... need で問題を持っています。

your eyes will light on sin
light は alight の縮約形と考えて、それを示すために、’light という表記が選択されています。ところが light を縮約形と考えなくても alight の意味を持つようです。但しコンコーダンスのために光を意味する light と区別するために表記を変えるのであれば意味はあります。語源的に言うと、光るの light と 軽いの light は別の系統の言葉。ここは荷物を降ろして軽くなるとかの軽いの系統の方で、鳥が枝に降りるとか目をとめるの意味を持つ light です。以下辞書からの引用です。

C では FIP と同じく effect に校訂していたのに、A で再び affect が正しいとされたところです。affect は影響を及ぼすで、effect は[変化を]もたらす、作り出すほうです。ここでは change を目的語としているので混同しやすいのですが、change に影響を与えるのではなく、change を生みだしているので、effect です。発音上は同じになるので聞き書きだと特に混同されやすい言葉です。語源から見ると affect はラテン語の ad-（=to）+ficio（する）で何かに働きかけること、effect はex-（=out）+ficioで外に働きかけること、作り出すことです。下は辞書に載っている一例ですが、他の辞書でも effect a change として挙げられています。

FIP は HLC の “sure and happy” を “thankful” に変えているというのですが、これは錯覚です。 センテンスの3と4を混同しています。ここには両者に違いはありません。
