2. We tried to attack reality, to separate from it, thus making a separate identity – the ego – and the world of space and time.

2.1. We tried to separate, motivated by a desire to elevate ourselves above our brothers and God.

私たちは、兄弟達や神よりも自分を高めようという願望に動機づけられて、分離しようと試みた。

2.2. The ego is the belief behind the separation; it is our core self-concept which says we are separate, autonomous beings.

エゴは分離の背後に潜む信念である。それは私たちの中核的な自己概念であって、私たちは分離していて、自律的な存在であると主張する。

2.3. When we tried to separate, we seemed to shatter reality into countless separate fragments.

分離しようと試みたとき、私たちは実在を数え切れないほどの分離した破片へと粉砕するように思われた。

2.4. We made the world by selecting and organizing the fragments.

私たちはその破片を選び組織化して世界を作った。

2.5. The world we made is the diametric opposite of Heaven in every way.

私たちが作った世界は、あらゆる点で天国とは真反対である。

2.6. God did not make the world; we did.

神は世界を作らなかった。それをしたのは私たちである。

2.7. The ego has one need: to stay in business, to confirm itself, to reinforce its reality, to protect itself from God’s Love.

エゴは必要としているものがある。忙しさの内に留まること。自己自身を堅固にすること、その実在性を強化すること、自分自身を神の愛から守ること。

2.8. We made this world of separate places and different moments to confirm the ego by “proving” that separation is an objective reality.

私たちはこの分離した場所と異なった瞬間からなるこの世界を作ったが、それは分離が客観的実在であることを証明することで、エゴを堅固にするためである。
